Description
Species:Acanthopyge sp.
Age:
Middle Devonian
Formation:
Hamar Laghdad Formation
Location:
Morocco
Size:
The trilobite is 7.2 cm long in straight line projection.
This is a relatively new species that so far as I know still hasn't been given a formal name. It is similar to Acanthopyge haueri but has a proportionately narrower thorax and pygidium and proportionately longer spines.
All trilobites found in limestone have at least one repair crack -- that is how they are found. This trilobite has three -- one running left to right through the abdomen, one running left to right through the head, and one running from the first crack up through the right side of the head. There is a modest amount of restoration along portions of the repair cracks.
