Gill signale un unique exemplaire du Mahaleki et considère la monnaie comme la dernière sortie de l'atelier de Harar avant la capture de la ville par Ménélik II en EE 1887 (1894). Il s'agit en outre de la première pièce moderne d'Éthiopie.
